NAIROBI— Eldas Member of Parliament Adan Keynan has joined fellow leaders and Kenyans across the country in mourning the death of Raila Amolo Odinga, Kenya’s iconic statesman, reformist, and democracy champion, who passed away on Monday.

In an emotional statement, Keynan described Raila’s death as a monumental loss not just to Kenya but to the entire African continent. “It is with profound sorrow that we mourn the passing of one of Kenya’s and Africa’s greatest sons, a towering statesman, an unyielding reformist, and a legendary icon of democracy,” he said.

Keynan emphasized that Raila’s passing marked the end of an era, noting that his lifelong struggle for justice and equality had left an indelible mark on the nation.

“The loss of Baba is not merely the passing of a leader, but the closing of a monumental chapter in our Republic’s history,” he stated.

Raila, who served as Kenya’s second Prime Minister between 2008 and 2013, was widely celebrated for his pivotal role in championing the country’s Second Liberation, the push for multi-party democracy, and the enactment of the 2010 Constitution. Keynan recalled Raila’s sacrifices—including detentions and political persecution—as a testament to his unwavering dedication to the democratic cause.

“As a titan of democracy and reforms, Raila Odinga’s political life embodied an unshakeable commitment to constitutionalism, devolution, and the expansion of democratic space,” Keynan said. “His name is forever woven into the fabric of Kenya’s democratic journey.”

The Eldas MP hailed Raila as an architect of change, noting that his legacy transcended electoral politics. “Though he never occupied the highest office, he shaped the very meaning of leadership, proving that power is not merely possessed, but earned through conviction, courage, and service to the people.”

MP Keynan extended heartfelt condolences to Mama Dr. Ida Odinga, the Odinga family, ODM party members, and Raila’s supporters across Kenya and beyond. He urged Kenyans to honour Raila’s memory by upholding the ideals he championed—unity, justice, and national transformation.

“May the spirit of Agwambo, the enigma, the reformer, the bridge-builder, continue to inspire generations to rise for the Kenya he so deeply believed in,” said.

“Fare thee well, Jakom. The flame of freedom you ignited will burn eternally in the heart of our nation.”
