GARISSA— As the 2027 general election approaches, a call has been made for Garissa residents to prioritize visionary and accountable leadership capable of transforming the county’s fortunes.

In a detailed statement, opinion leaders emphasized that the prosperity of Garissa County and the well-being of its people depend on electing a competent and development-focused governor.

Citing leadership expert John C. Maxwell’s quote that “everything rises and falls on leadership,” they stressed the need for citizens to make an informed choice that would set the county on a path of progress and inclusivity.

Among those proposed as suitable for the task is Hon. Abdul Haji, described as a young, energetic, and reform-minded leader with a proven record of integrity and innovation.

Supporters say that under Haji’s leadership, Garissa’s youth would benefit from training in agri-business, digital skills, and manufacturing. The health sector would also undergo major reforms — including digital tracking of medicine stocks, performance-based rewards for health workers, and improved transparency in service delivery.

Haji’s agenda reportedly includes empowering Ward Development Committees with real budgets and oversight powers, promoting open procurement systems, and ensuring every shilling of public funds is accounted for through digital dashboards accessible to the public.

“Haji is a leader who does not weaponize tribe, nor does he serve the interests of political cartels,” the statement read in part.

As the political season intensifies, calls for transformative and transparent leadership in Garissa continue to gain traction, with residents expressing hope that the next administration will bring inclusive growth, equity, and accountability to the county.
