Nairobi — Cabinet Secretary for Water, Sanitation and Irrigation, Eng. Eric Mugaa has announced plans for a multi-stakeholder meeting to address operational challenges facing the Tula Tula Water Supply Project in Wajir County.

The decision follows a courtesy visit to Maji House by CPA Andrew Rage Eysimkele, Chief Executive Officer of the Northern Water Works Development Agency (NWWDA) and Mr. Willis Okello Ombai, CEO of the Water Sector Trust Fund.

During the meeting, Eysimkele briefed the CS on progress of key initiatives in Wajir County, including the Eldas Water Supply Project and the Eldas-Languraa Water Supply Project. Both schemes aim to mitigate acute water shortages triggered by recurrent droughts in the arid region.

Attention focused on the Tula Tula Water Supply Project which has been completed and commissioned but continues to experience operational difficulties. Following discussions, the parties agreed to organise a joint forum involving representatives from the national government, Wajir County Government, and end-user communities to chart a sustainable way forward.

Separately, Ombai updated the CS on the Water Sector Trust Fund’s nationwide financing of water, sanitation and resource management projects with particular emphasis on underserved rural and urban marginalised areas.

In a statement, the Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring every Kenyan gains access to clean, safe and sustainable water supplies.

The planned stakeholder engagement emphasizes ongoing efforts to resolve implementation hurdles in critical infrastructure projects across arid and semi-arid lands.
