NAIROBI— Nominated Member of Parliament Umulkher Harun Mohamed has called for an immediate investigation into the alleged abduction of two men in Hulugho, Garissa County, on the night of February 6, 2026, raising serious concerns over possible involvement of state security officers.

In a statement the MP described the incident as a grave violation of constitutional and human rights. At approximately 10:00 p.m., armed individuals driving two Toyota Hilux vehicles – one black and one white bearing registration number KCC 098R – reportedly stormed the compound of 75-year-old Mzee Sambur and forcibly took him away.

The elderly man’s family gave chase and in a dramatic rescue captured on video managed to free him from the abductors. However, the second victim Mr. Mohamed Yarrow, believed to have been taken in the other vehicle remains missing more than a week later. His continued disappearance has caused profound distress to his family and the wider Hulugho community.

“The use of vehicles commonly associated with law enforcement, especially one with an identifiable registration number gives rise to reasonable suspicion that state officers may have been involved,” Umulkher stated. “If this is the case, it would constitute a serious violation of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010. If not, it is equally alarming that individuals may be impersonating security officers and operating with such impunity.”

Statement by Nominated MP Umulkher Mohamed.

The nominated MP demanded full disclosure, accountability and an independent probe into the incident emphasising that abductions undermine public trust in state institutions. Residents of Garissa County, already grappling with insecurity have expressed growing fear over what they describe as a pattern of unexplained disappearances.

Rights groups have echoed the call for swift action, warning that failure to address such cases risks eroding the rule of law. As of February 14, 2026, no official response has been issued by security agencies regarding the allegations.
