Kwale County – The largest security conference ever held on African soil kicked off on Thursday in the coastal town of Diani, Kwale County, bringing together high-level delegates from across the globe.
The Mashariki Cooperation Conference has attracted participants from 98 countries, alongside major international and regional security organizations and 21 security think tanks.

Kenya’s National Intelligence Service Director General Noordin Haji is hosting the landmark event, which is taking place under the theme: “The Emerging Geopolitical Dynamics and Africa’s Security Architecture.”
Delegates engaged in candid discussions on pressing regional and global security threats, with particular attention on emerging challenges such as cyber risks, AI-driven misinformation, and transnational security issues.

Participants explored innovative strategies to address these threats and emphasized the urgent need for enhanced intelligence sharing and stronger African-led cooperation.
The conference is expected to tackle the critical question: “What next for Africa?” as it seeks to shape the future of continental security architecture.
The gathering highlights Kenya’s growing stature as a key platform for high-level security dialogue across Africa.
