NAIROBI— Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale on Monday spearheaded a high-level delegation of leaders from Northern Kenya in crucial discussions with President William Ruto at State House, aimed at tackling persistent challenges and fast-tracking transformative development across the region.
The meeting brought together governors from the five counties — Ahmed Abdullahi (Wajir), Nathif Jama (Garissa), and Mohamed Khalif (Mandera) — along with representatives from Marsabit and Isiolo. In an official statement posted on his X, President Ruto emphasised that the administration is “working closely with the leaders of Northern Kenya to address the challenges facing the residents in an effort to accelerate the region’s transformation.” He highlighted deliberate policy interventions designed to dismantle decades of marginalisation by promoting equitable development, expanding access to essential services, and generating new economic opportunities for local communities.
Central to these efforts is the newly established National Infrastructure Fund, which will channel significant resources into critical sectors. Key priorities include energy generation, water harvesting and storage, and large-scale irrigation projects. These initiatives are expected to unlock the region’s vast potential in agriculture and industry, creating jobs and improving livelihoods.
