MANDERA – Former Mandera Senator Billow Kerrow has launched a scathing attack on Governor Mohamed Adan Khalif, accusing him of gross misallocation of county resources while residents continue to drink contaminated water.

In a statement accompanied by photos of the dilapidated Banissa surface water pan—the sole source for the sub-county headquarters—Kerrow said it was “shameful” that 62 years after independence and 13 years into devolution, basic water infrastructure remains in pathetic condition despite the county receiving over Sh 150 billion and allocating Sh 6 billion to water projects in the last three years.

“The governor spent millions hiring a helicopter for campaigns last month, millions more shifting Jamhuri Day celebrations from Mandera to Elwak for ego, and reportedly Sh 2 million to 20 bloggers to polish his three-year report. Yet a fraction of that money could fence this pan and stop contamination,” Kerrow charged.

He revealed a borehole drilled borehole lies idle just 4 km away, awaiting equipping and piping. “When priorities are this misplaced, our people suffer while those in office feel nothing,” he said.

Residents echoed the outrage, saying the administration has abandoned them despite the governor’s backyard being Banissa.
