President Ismaïl Omar Guelleh hailed the progress made in Djibouti’s health sector on Thursday.

The President was officiating the graduation ceremony of the first Master’s cohort from the Institut Supérieur des Sciences de la Santé (ISSS) at Ayla Hotel.

ISSS is Djibouti’s premier health training institution, dedicated to producing skilled medical professionals who support the country’s growing and modernizing healthcare system.

He credited recent achievements in the sector to the combined efforts of the government and its partners.

The head of state noted major advances in hospital construction and modernization, expanded patient capacity, deployment of specialized services, and strengthened laboratories and community health centers.

The President said these improvements now give Djibouti a health system that is modern, sovereign, and accessible.

He emphasized the central role of the ISSS in increasing the number of qualified professionals, improving the quality of care, and boosting national resilience against global health crises.

Reaffirming his commitment to prioritizing healthcare, President Guelleh said a strong health system underpins a country’s economic and social development and strengthens social cohesion.

He also urged the adoption of new technologies such as digital health tools, telemedicine, and Artificial Intelligence to further modernize services.

The President called on the ISSS to lead in training professionals capable of mastering and innovating with these emerging tools.

The event was attended by senior government officials, including Higher Education Minister Nabil Mohamed Ahmed, and First Lady Kadra Mahamoud Haid, President of the UNFD, who is widely recognized for her leadership in advancing women’s rights and social solidarity.
