Garissa— Garissa County Commissioner Mohamed Mwabudzo has called on parents to take greater responsibility for their children, warning that rising cases of juvenile crime are linked to neglect at home.
He noted that authorities will enforce strict measures against minors involved in criminal activities, stressing that accountability must begin at the family level.
Mwabudzo issued the warning on Friday during Garissa’s 62nd Jamhuri Day celebrations held at Yathrib Primary School Grounds in Galbet Ward.
He joined Governor Nathif Jama in leading residents in marking the national holiday, which drew hundreds to the colourful county event.
The commissioner said both the county and sub-county security committees will take decisive action against criminal elements, reaffirming that the peace and security of Garissa residents is “non-negotiable.”
He added that individuals facing charges and released on bonds exceeding Sh1 million will only be freed once the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) clears their files.
Commissioner Mwabudzo further cautioned parents against interfering with court processes when their children are involved in crime.
The administrator said such actions fuel lawlessness and undermine justice.
He urged families to instil discipline and work closely with law enforcement to curb the growing menace.
