WAJIR – Eldas Constituency Member of Parliament Adan Keynan has commended the national government through the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) for prioritizing critical infrastructure projects aimed at transforming connectivity and economic prospects in the historically underserved region.
In a statement, MP Keynan highlighted the upgrade of the Wajir Town-Elnur Road to bitumen standards as a game-changing intervention. This key route linking Wajir Town through areas including ICF, Sunrise and Towhid to Elnur, and surrounding settlements is set to improve regional mobility.
“The project will lower transport costs, facilitate the seamless movement of people, livestock, and goods, and enhance access to vital services such as markets, health facilities, and educational institutions,” Keynan stated.
Infrastructure development remains a critical pillar in unlocking inclusive growth and shared prosperity, particularly in historically underserved regions.

Given the area’s heavy reliance on pastoralism and small-scale trade, the all-weather road is expected to unlock new trade opportunities, draw investments, bolster security via improved accessibility for authorities, and foster stronger socio-economic connections throughout Eldas Constituency.

Keynan also praised the planned tarmacking of all internal roads in Elnur Town, the headquarters of Eldas South Sub-County. These upgrades will significantly improve access to administrative offices, public institutions and security facilities, paving the way for more efficient government service delivery and coordinated operations.
“Enhanced township roads will uplift residents’ welfare, encourage planned urban development, stimulate local enterprises, generate jobs, and cement Elnur’s status as a vibrant administrative and commercial center,” he added.
The MP emphasized that these combined initiatives demonstrate the government’s dedication to inclusive growth in arid and semi-arid lands, ultimately strengthening governance, restoring community pride and markedly elevating living standards for residents of Eldas South, the broader Eldas Constituency and neighboring areas.

Keynan’s remarks emphasize ongoing efforts to address long-standing infrastructure gaps in northern Kenya, aligning with broader national goals for equitable development.
