GARISSA—Nominated Member of Parliament Umulkheir Harun Mohamed has expressed profound shock after receiving a disturbing video that underscores grave issues of social injustice and gender-based violence in Garissa town.

The MP highlighted how extreme clan loyalty in the area has escalated to alarming levels, enabling the alleged non-consensual filming of girls in compromising situations while perpetrators evade accountability due to clan-based shielding.

According to Umulkheir, the video depicts a 16-year-old girl filmed naked and in distress, crying—circumstances that strongly indicate the recording was made forcibly and without consent.

She noted that the individuals involved displayed blatant disregard for the victim’s wellbeing. Despite the alleged perpetrators being identified, no action has been taken against them, reportedly due to clan protection.

The MP also referenced a separate incident involving a young woman who was allegedly gang-raped after boarding a taxi.

Addressing Garissa residents, Umulkheir cautioned that persistent tolerance of tribalism and clan favoritism will have devastating long-term repercussions for the entire community.

“If tribalism is not confronted and eradicated, it will ultimately destroy us all,” she warned.

Her statements have spotlighted the urgent need for enhanced accountability, robust protection for women and minors, and unified community action to address crimes irrespective of clan affiliations.
