GARISSA— Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested Sahara Ahmed Barre, a Member of County Assembly (MCA) aspirant from Madogashe in Garissa County, in connection with an inciteful viral video circulating on social media.
The video, which has sparked widespread concern, contains remarks deemed inflammatory and likely to incite division, hatred, or undermine national cohesion and public safety.
According to the DCI, the arrest followed a swift review of the content, with investigations ongoing to establish the full context and intent behind the statements. The suspect is currently in lawful custody and is being processed pending arraignment in court.
In a statement, the DCI emphasized that while freedom of expression is protected under the Constitution, it must be exercised responsibly and within the bounds of the law. The agency warned that utterances capable of inciting violence, ethnic tension, or threatening peaceful coexistence will be met with firm action and without exception.
The DCI further urged members of the public to remain calm, maintain peace, and refrain from sharing or amplifying inflammatory content that could escalate tensions in the region.
This latest arrest underscores ongoing efforts by security agencies to curb hate speech and incitement on digital platforms, especially ahead of political activities in the area.
