Marsabit — Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Mohamed I. Amin has issued a stern warning to drug traffickers, distributors, any law enforcement officers shielding illicit networks and declaring an uncompromising nationwide crackdown on drug, and substance abuse.
Speaking at the conclusion of a security assessment tour in Marsabit County, Mr Amin described drug and substance abuse as a grave threat to national security and development, particularly for the youth. He reiterated President William Ruto’s New Year’s Eve declaration that the menace constitutes a national emergency, pledging the DCI’s full commitment to eradicating it.
“No one is above the law,” Mr Amin stressed. “Any officer or public official found protecting or enabling drug networks will face the full force of the law. There will be no sacred cows in this fight.”
During the tour, the DCI boss visited several police stations across the vast northern county, inspecting operational readiness, interacting with officers on the ground and engaging directly with local residents. He praised the dedication of personnel working in challenging conditions while urging greater community involvement in intelligence gathering to identify and dismantle drug syndicates.

Mr Amin directed all police commanders countrywide to intensify operations against sellers, traffickers and distributors of illicit brews, narcotics and other prohibited substances. He revealed plans to significantly bolster the DCI’s Anti-Narcotics Unit with advanced investigative tools, enhanced intelligence capabilities and modern forensic resources to improve detection, prosecution and disruption of drug networks.
The Director emphasised that community-police partnerships are essential for sustainable success. “We cannot win this war alone,” he told residents and officers in Marsabit. “Your support in reporting suspicious activities is crucial to protecting our children and securing our future.”
The renewed offensive comes amid growing public concern over rising cases of alcohol and drug abuse, especially in marginalised regions where trafficking routes exploit porous borders. Mr Amin’s tough stance signals a coordinated, intelligence-led approach that leaves no room for compromise.
As Kenya confronts this national emergency, the DCI’s resolve underscores a clear message: the era of impunity for drug barons and their enablers is over. With enhanced capacity and unwavering political backing, security agencies are poised to deliver tangible results in safeguarding communities and the nation’s youth.
