Mr. Mahat Sheikh Salah, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Garissa County Teaching and Referral Hospital, has congratulated all Kenyans on the occasion of Jamhuri Day.
He said the day marks the birth of the republic and reflects the unity, resilience, and shared hope that continue to guide the nation.
Mr. Salah extended his appreciation to the people of Garissa and the wider northern region for their trust in the hospital’s services.
He said their support motivates health workers to serve with commitment and compassion.
Mr. Salah said the day formally marks Kenya’s admission as a republic and also the date of independence, a powerful reminder of the unity and courage that founded our nation.
He thanked all Kenyans, especially the people of Garissa and the wider northern region, for their trust in us to protect health and life.
“Your support motivates our staff every day as we work to serve families, pastoralists, refugees, and low‑income residents who rely on us,” said the CEO.
Mr. Salah noted that over the past year the hospital had made tangible improvements in patient care and infrastructure.
He said the facility had moved from largely manual systems to a digital platform, which enabled instant access to patient records and smoother collaboration among staff.
He added that these changes had improved patient flow, accountability, and planning.
As a referral hospital for six counties, the responsibility of the facility is vast and growing. It serves Garissa, Wajir, Mandera, Tana River, Isiolo and parts of Marsabit, receiving hundreds of patients daily from diverse communities across northern Kenya.
The hospital leader said staff at the facility are stretched, and the institution is engaging county and national authorities to improve staffing and resources.
“On this national day, let us reaffirm that health is a shared responsibility. We call on communities, partners, donors and NGOs to stand with us—helping to safeguard facilities, curb misuse, and support programs in cancer screening, dialysis, maternal health, nutrition and more.”
