MANDERA — In a major boost to his 2027 parliamentary bid, Dr. Omar Jibril Mohamed, a seasoned disaster management expert, has received the formal endorsement of the Osman Nur family, a prominent branch of the Jibrael sub-clan in Mandera North Constituency.
The endorsement, announced during a community gathering on Tuesday, April 14, 2026 at Rhamu town in Mandera North constituency, underscores growing support for Dr. Omar Jibril within key clan structures that shape political outcomes in the arid region. Elders and representatives of the Osman Nur family praised his proven track record in public service, describing him as a technocrat capable of addressing the constituency’s pressing challenges.
“This endorsement reflects our collective desire for competent, development-focused leadership,” a family spokesperson said.
“Dr. Omar’s track record in drought resilience, healthcare, and peace-building aligns with the aspirations of our people.” He added.

Dr. Omar Jibril Mohamed, who hails from Mandera North, brings over two decades of experience in disaster management, public health and sustainable development. He holds a Master of Science in Disaster Management and Sustainable Development from Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology, a Bachelor of Psychology in Counselling from the University of Nairobi, and a Diploma in Kenya Registered Community Health Nursing from Kenya Medical Training College. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Clinical Psychology at Africa International University and holds certifications in mediation, arbitration, and strategic planning.
His professional journey includes serving as Director of Disaster Management and Humanitarian Coordination at Wajir County Government, where he established the county’s first Disaster Management Directorate. He previously coordinated Global Fund-supported health programs across Somalia for Comitato Collaborazione Medica (CCM-Italy) and now works with the IGAD Centre of Excellence in Climate Change Adaptation while volunteering as National Coordinator of the Kenya Arid and Semi-Arid Lands Stakeholders Forum.
In his acceptance remarks, Dr. Omar said: “This endorsement from the Osman Nur family reaffirms our shared commitment to unity and progress. Mandera North deserves leadership grounded in experience, integrity, and a deep understanding of local realities. My journey in disaster response and policy development has equipped me to deliver tangible solutions for peace, healthcare, clean water, education, and drought resilience.”
The aspirant, who is eyeing the seat on a UDA ticket, had previously stepped aside in the 2013 and 2017 elections to support incumbent MP Bashir Abdullahi Sheikh in line with negotiated democracy.

Political observers note that the Osman Nur backing, coming from a respected Jibrael sub-clan branch, could consolidate support across Degodia and Garre communities and strengthen his position against rivals in the clan-sensitive constituency.
Community leaders described the move as a step toward issue-based politics while respecting traditional structures. With the 2027 polls approaching, Dr. Mohamed’s campaign is expected to focus on practical development and inter-community cohesion in one of Kenya’s most marginalized areas.
