Jubbaland,Somalia — Severe and spreading drought across many parts of the Jubbaland State of Somalia has triggered a growing wave of displacement.
The number of families who have fled to Dhoobleey town in Lower Jubba has sharply increased in recent weeks.
Makeshift camps on the outskirts of Dhoobleey are now overcrowded with internally displaced people (IDPs) who lack even the most basic necessities.
Many of the families, most of whom arrived from rural areas after losing their livestock and livelihoods, say they are surviving without adequate food, clean water or shelter.
Residents sheltering in the IDP camps told Jubbaland TV that their situation is deteriorating rapidly and that they fear famine-related deaths if emergency support does not arrive soon.
Parents described going days without proper meals and children suffering from dehydration under scorching temperatures.
The ongoing drought has been described as one of the worst the region has faced in recent years.
It continues to devastate livelihoods across Jubbaland, forcing more families to abandon their homes in search of relief.
Humanitarian workers warn that without swift intervention, conditions in the already strained camps could worsen further, putting thousands at risk.
