WAJIR – Abdullahi Mohamed Sajo and Principal Secretary Ahmed Abdisalan both hail from the Rer Mahat sub-clan of the larger Rer Abdi family, placing them within the same political support base as preparations intensify for the anticipated August 15 declaration in Bute.
As consultations continue across Wajir North ahead of the 2027 General Election, Sajo is increasingly being viewed by political observers and supporters as one of the leading contenders in the parliamentary race.
Sajo’s political standing received a significant boost after securing the endorsement of the Rer Mahat community. Observers say the endorsement strengthened his position within the constituency and gave him an early advantage in the contest.
His support has since expanded following additional endorsements from the Rer Abdi and larger Gareen families, developments supporters say have widened his grassroots appeal and reinforced his standing among elders, professionals, youth leaders, women, and opinion leaders.
Momentum behind Sajo’s candidacy grew further after a consultative meeting convened by the Rerow Abdi family in Adajole. The meeting brought together elders, religious leaders, professionals, youth representatives, and other community stakeholders to deliberate on the constituency’s political direction.
During the consultations, participants noted that Ahmed Abdisalan, the former Wajir North Member of Parliament, is currently serving as a Principal Secretary in the National Government. They said the responsibilities of his national office had prompted discussions on identifying a candidate who could fully dedicate his time to representing the constituency.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Rerow Abdi family publicly endorsed Abdullahi Mohamed Sajo as its preferred parliamentary candidate and flag bearer. Community leaders described the endorsement as the outcome of broad consultations and consensus among delegates.
Speaking after the meeting, elders and community representatives described Sajo as a leader committed to unity, inclusive leadership, and development. They cited his focus on education, youth empowerment, infrastructure, peacebuilding, improved healthcare, and economic opportunities as key reasons for backing his candidacy.
With the August 15 declaration in Bute fast approaching, political attention remains firmly focused on Wajir North. While consultations among different communities continue and the political landscape remains competitive, observers say Abdullahi Mohamed Sajo has emerged as one of the strongest contenders heading into the next phase of the race, supported by a growing coalition of community leaders and grassroots supporters.
