GARISSA— A court in Dadaab has ordered the exhumation of 15-year-old Safiya Hussein Bilal to allow a repeat autopsy in the ongoing investigation into her killing in Garissa County.

The ODPP said Senior Principal Magistrate Evans Muleka directed the girl’s relative, Hussein Bilal, to identify the grave. The Chief Government Pathologist will lead the exhumation and fresh forensic examinations.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations will document the process, while the Fafi Subcounty Public Health Officer has been assigned to ensure safety.

The family may have an independent pathologist present, and Dr. Chweya Arthur, who conducted the initial post-mortem, will also attend.

Four suspects — Shafa Bilal Sharkane, Abubakar Abdullahi, Halima Muhumud Mogow, and Zeynab Salat Samatar — were recently detained for 20 days as investigators gather evidence. They are expected to face murder charges once forensic results are completed.

The case will be mentioned again on Wednesday, December 10.
