NAIROBI – The Kenyan political landscape plunged into grief today following the sudden death of Isiolo South Member of Parliament Mohamed Tubi Bidu, prompting heartfelt tributes from fellow lawmakers, including Eldas MP Adan Keynan, who described the late legislator as a “true servant of the people.”

Tubi, 48, succumbed to complications from a short illness while receiving treatment at Nairobi Hospital, his family confirmed.

Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetang’ula announced the news during evening proceedings, calling it a “profound loss” to Parliament and the nation.

Elected in August 2022 under the Jubilee Party banner, Tubi was serving his first term, representing the arid Isiolo South Constituency in northern Kenya. A dedicated advocate for regional development, he championed education, community empowerment, and environmental issues as a member of the Departmental Committee on Environment and Natural Resources and the Public Petitions Committee.

Prior to national politics, Tubi made history as the inaugural Speaker of the Isiolo County Assembly from 2013 to 2017, where he earned respect for fostering unity in a diverse, pastoralist region plagued by resource conflicts.

Holding a Bachelor of Arts in Community Development from Gretsa University, he also pursued wildlife management studies, reflecting his passion for sustainable livelihoods in arid lands.

In a poignant statement, Keynan, a longtime ally from neighboring Wajir County, expressed “deep and profound sadness” over the loss of his “colleague and friend.” He praised Tubi’s “calm demeanor, integrity, and deep sense of duty,” noting that his commitment to peace and development in northern Kenya transcended political divides. “His demise is not only a great loss to his family and constituents but also to the entire nation, which has lost a visionary leader devoted to peace, development and public service,” Keynan said. He extended condolences to Tubi’s family, friends, and the people of Isiolo South, praying for divine comfort and Tubi’s eternal rest in Jannatul Firdaus.

President William Ruto led national mourning, lauding Tubi as a “dedicated public servant” whose vision for knowledge-based progress would endure.

CS Health Aden Duale and Busia County Assembly members echoed similar sentiments, highlighting Tubi’s humility and cross-party admiration.

Social media overflowed with condolences, with users recalling his quiet advocacy for marginalized voices.

Tubi’s burial is slated for Thursday morning, in line with Islamic traditions. His passing leaves a void in efforts to uplift northern Kenya, but his legacy of service endures, inspiring a new generation of leaders to bridge divides and drive equitable growth.
