The Northern Kenya Media Practitioners (NKMP) has urged journalists and communities in the region to uphold unity, compassion and professional integrity as Muslims mark Eid-ul-Fitr.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the association’s secretary general, Yunis Dekow, extended greetings to residents of Northern Kenya, members of the media and Muslims worldwide at the close of Ramadan.

He described the festival as a moment for reflection and renewed social responsibility.
The body called on the public to support vulnerable groups through acts of charity, emphasising that the spirit of Eid should be reflected in generosity and community solidarity.

“As we mark this joyous occasion, let us embrace the values of compassion, unity and generosity,” the statement said, adding that prayers and charitable acts undertaken during Ramadan should translate into sustained support for those in need.

The association also used the occasion to reaffirm its commitment to responsible journalism, stressing the role of the media in promoting peace and cohesion in a region often affected by social and economic challenges.

NKMP said it would continue working with stakeholders to advance accurate, ethical and community-centred reporting.

Mr. Dekow said credibility and professionalism remain critical in building public trust.
